Warming up

Now that both the air and ground temperature have warmed up sufficiently and there will be few if any more frosts, it’s a good time to tread quietly and watch the sides of the paths for sunbathing Grass Snakes as they shake off the lethargy of hibernation. They usually use the same sites year on year.

Newts will be becoming more active as the water temperature slowly increases. Remember that Great Crested Newts are protected in law and can only be handled by someone with the appropriate license.

duckling

It won’t be long now, and it may have already happened..the first sightings of this seasons goslings and ducklings on the lake.

The Bluebells should be out about now in the trees on the right hand side as you walk from the car park down to the lake.

You should also keep an ear open for the first Cuckoo but be aware that Nibbley does a wicked impression of one and has successfully wound up more than one member over the last few years. The males will arrive first followed by the females a couple of weeks later.
